It’s been a tough year for you, your staff, and your patients…
For many, the stress of having to figure out what to do to celebrate the holidays with staff may be daunting.
In the past, when I co-owned a private practice, we offered monetary bonuses and, eventually, elevated that to the point of even offering a cruise weekend…
What a blast we all had! (Of course, THAT’s not a real option these days…)
In addition, I’ve received amazing bonuses from the optometrists and ophthalmologists I’ve worked for in the past…
It was SO appreciated!
This year is different…
It’s been a rough year for our industry.
But, whether the gesture is big or small, being recognized and feeling appreciated with a holiday gift or celebration is one of the most profound ways you can say “thank you” to your staff for their hard work all year long…
Here are some ideas that may ease your stress – some are “the usuals,” some may spark some creativity:
- A monetary bonus – consider NOT making it dependent on productivity this year; just based on your appreciation of a job well done!
- A gift card to their favorite online shop – to ease their own fears of spending for the holidays
- A specific gift that relates to something they love – you may have taken some mental notes about special things your staff may have mentioned like a favorite restaurant, wine, hobby, or type of pen; giving a gift that holds special meaning and is memorable will be appreciated for years to come

- Anywhere Indoor/Outdoor Fireplace – a great gift for those that like to go camping… at home!
- Neck and Back Massage Pillow – a thoughtful gift for anyone that enjoys a way to reduce stress
- A Tactical Pen – for the “gadget geek” on your staff!
- Pistachio Bowl – for the pistachio lover that no longer wants to make a mess while eating their favorite snack
- Camping Gear Multitool – a useful tool for your camping staffer
- 31 Piece BBQ Grilling Set – for the person who loves to BBQ
- Folding stand for iPhone – a lot of people rave about this pocket stand, great for taking pictures at many angles
- LED Flashlight Glove – hands-free flashlights (actually, they’re ON your hands in the gloves!)
- Deluxe Cheese Board with Multiple Serving Tools and Plates – a beautiful gift for that person that loves a wonderful charcuterie
- A Spa Day – spoil your staff with a special day meant to de-stress them
- Treat your staff to a COVID-19 safe office celebration – it doesn’t have to be elaborate, just a quick after-work gathering of Charcuterie, snacks, and gift-exchanging.
You don’t have to break the bank to show that you care. Of course, if you had a profitable year, you certainly want to make sure your holiday gifts are commensurate with those profits.
