From time to time, there are companies in and out of our industry that catch my eye (uh-huh, yes, I said it!) because of the impact they’re making for their clients, customers, employees, and communities.
I enjoy writing about them so that others will learn of their existence…
One such marvelous company is Drift.
I discovered Drift when I was looking for a better way to communicate with customers for my digital marketing company, KISS your Web, LLC (you can be sure I’ll be contacting them for this site soon, too).
If you click through to my other company’s (or Drift’s) website, you’ll notice a small messenger bubble where my “bot” hangs out, usually located on the bottom right section of your screen, ready to answer any questions you may want to ask of me.
Why is this important?
Because it offers an entry point of contact, or conversation, with a potential buyer without having them feel like they’re being marketed to…
Drift even coined a phrase for this…
It’s called Conversational Marketing.
How BRILLIANT!
As Drift explains, “conversational marketing is the fastest way to move buyers through your marketing and sales funnels through the power of real-time conversations. It builds relationships and creates authentic experiences with customers and buyers.”
Isn’t that what marketing is all about?
So, you may be asking, “what does this have to do with ‘Your One Thing’ ” as the title of this blog post suggests…
Well, it’s two-fold…
- More superficially, it’s the name of an article the CEO of Drift, David Cancel (one of my favorite CEOs of all time!), wrote recently and,
- More profoundly, I’m impressed with Drift’s own ability to focus on and spend the bulk of their business perfecting their One BIG Thing: Conversational Marketing… and it also got me thinking about my own ONE THING!
So let me dive into these a little bit more…
Point #1 – The Article by David Cancel, CEO of Drift
I had a feeling David might mention two of my favorite books, The One Thing by Gary Keller and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey…
And, sure enough, he did!
He also describes a couple of things that actually DON’T lead to productivity – but you’ll have to check out his article to read the rest… 😉
As a response to the article, here’s what I wrote on Linkedin…
Point #2 – My One Thing
I’ve spent a fair amount of time, years in fact, finding the intersection of what I’m good at, what I love to do, and what problems I can solve that will impact the lives of others…
After a fair amount of reflection (and, yes, I had a lot of time for this during the Pandemic), it boils down to this, something I call my “single motivating purpose” (thanks to the teaching brilliance of Jason Van Orden and Jeremy Frandsen, as well as, more recently, Renee Warmack’s Power Hack® Playbook success program):
“I get up every morning to share knowledge and solve challenges in order to help others reach their greatest potential and purpose to then enrich the lives of others and ultimately make an impact in the world.
I do this through written, graphical, and video content.”
It’s why you’re seeing this post, as well as the following…
- A greater amount of activity on Linkedin,
- The creation and sharing of useful graphics, videos, articles, posts, and infographics (often as “listicles”),
- An increase of commenting on posts I find important for our industry,
- Deep dives and research into the latest developments in the eye care industry and beyond, and
- An escalation of forging deeper connections to more eye care professionals and leaders.
When you’re able to define your ONE THING, focus on it, and put bold action towards it, I truly believe wonderful things begin to happen…
So I ask you again to help you achieve your highest goals, what’s YOUR one thing?
